No frownie brownie

Let's start with the Companies name The Pink Bakery. It's named after our favorite color!
My first impressions of the product was that...
  • The box stands out on its own as it's white and Pink, with a beautiful picture.
  •  * IT'S MADE BY PEOPLE WITH FOOD ALLERGIES, so you know the "GET IT" *
  • All their products are Vegan. (meaning NO eggs or milk needed for their mixes)
  • Free from TOP 8 allergens
  • Organic and NON GMO
  • Fair Trade and responsibly sourced ingredients.
  • Made in a State Inspected "BIG 8" allergen free dedicated kitchen.
  • One thing I didn't like was that it's not certified gluten free. Which we steer clear from.* I will get back to this point later on.
  • It has the easy top 8 allergen pictures, for easy identification by all ages.
  • Absolutely love all the names to every single mix they have.
  • Mama's Favorite Chocolate
  • Chocolate Chip Cake Mix
  • Not So Plain Jane Sugar Cookies
  • Pie Crust Mix

So back to the the point of the product not being certified gluten free! We used Nima for the test.

  • "Nima uses anti-body based chemistry to test samples of food for the proteins found in gluten. Nima was designed to detect gluten in food samples at 20 ppm (parts per million) or above with 99.5% accuracy. If Nima detects gluten at any level, even below 20 ppm, the result will read "Gluten Found."
  • So we tested our the brownie mix with our Nima Gluten Sensor. Nima gave us a happy face, meaning the brownie mix tested under the regulated 20 ppm. So yes it's gluten free.
  • Nima has been a great addition to our tool box. Having Nima has given us the opportunity to try new products that may be a "mom and pop" small company just starting out and don't have the funds to pay for the certification of the gluten free logo.

What you need to make the NO FROWNIE BROWNIE
  • 1/3 cup oil of choice
  • 3/4 cup water
That's it!! IT DOES CONTAIN CORN, for my friends that have little ones allergic to corn. The powder mix only contains 9 ingredients and one of them is "Lot's of Love"! The consistency is very thick and fudge like. But very easy to mix and incorporate. It has an amazing chocolatey smell. I really wanted to just scoop it out of the bowl and eat as is! Fortunately I contained myself. It needs to bake between 30-55 minutes depending what your baking it in. The hardest part for me was that you have to let the brownies completely cool for 2 hours before cutting them. So I decided to bake them before church, and once we were back they where ready to be devoured! They are the perfect combination of crispy on the top and chewy in the center. From my 7 year old daughter to my mother, and everyone in-between they where sure a big hit! We will definitely be making them again. I love that they added organic freeze dried instant coffee. I always add coffee to all our brownie mixes because the flavor is amazing and perfect with chocolate. But i didn't need to do that with this mix. Thank you The Pink Bakery. You can order their mixes through their website. I think my next mix I am going to try is their Pie Crust mix with a YouTube video, since it's pie baking season!!!
